Bring Real Initiative & Referendum to Texas

    The entrenched politicians are afraid of you.  They're afraid that if you were given the opportunity to write your own laws, you might apply term limits.  Or, if you were given the opportunity to reconsider some of the thousands of useless laws they pass every year, you might repeal a few of 'em.

    I&R has never been seriously considered in Texas.  When a bill is introduced, it gives veto power to the Legislature.  You see, they believe that you're too dumb to write a good law.

    I'm for bringing Real I&R to Texas.  The type that over 20 other States now have.  The type that gives you veto power over their laws, not the other way around.  The type that shifts power away from Austin, and back to you.

    States that have I&R have term limits for State politicians; have property tax reform; allow doctors to decide if marijuana is the right treatment.

    Is every initiative a good law?  Certainly not.  But, annually about 100 new laws are passed through an initiative nation-wide.  Compare that to the over 20,000 laws passed by the Texas State Legislature in a typical term.  And, how many of the thousands of laws passed by Austin are really needed?

    Initiative allows citizens to write laws.  Referendum allows citizens to reconsider laws passed by the Legislature.

    Your representatives in Austin are afraid to give you that power.  They're afraid of you.
